Research.  It comes with being a student.  Whether you are researching a topic for a short essay, a final paper, your thesis,  or your own interest, you will accumulate information.  Links in one class could be useful in another class, or in another “bucket” of related information. 

Instead of amassing an unsorted bookmark list or a pile of mystery folders, think about embracing your inner librarian and start to curate your materials.  While this might not sound exciting, it’s not difficult and will become  useful to you through your academic career and beyond.

Cite Your Source and Save Time

How to cite your sources fasterDo you spend a lot of time on Facebook? Well, now there’s a helpful Facebook app that gives you good reason for logging on, it’s called CITEME.

This tool is a bibliography creator built into Facebook. The way you use it is this:

  • Install CITEMEon your side bar in Facebook, or as a block
  • Perform a search of the book you’re trying to cite
  • Copy and paste the search results into your paper

While this is a great tool, and free to use, it’s always good to double check the result with your papers guidelines; APA style, etc. Read on for more of the perks on this citation app.

Accreditation is the voluntary process a public or private educational institution uses to verify, through a third-party evaluation, that it meets specific academic standards. This is something you should check for when researching online universities.

You’ll need to learn the difference between regional and national accreditation. Did you know that there are six regional accreditation agencies in the U.S.? The good news here is the accrediting agencies will list participating colleges that meet their requirements on their website.

Don’t Psych Yourself Out

Don't Psych Yourself Out in SchoolEducation can be overpowering at times, but it’s a great ally to have personally and professionally. If you’re feeling overwhelmed take a step back and take a mental break, but don’t talk yourself out of school.

We all go through a period of burnout, or self-doubt, and we get through it with help from an advisor, family, etc.If you’re questioning your degree path than discuss it with your advisor. They’re trained to help students with the tough questions about where they are in school, and if the path they’re on works for them. And if you’re ever in need of a pep talk chat with other students in your program. They may be going through the same thing, and others may give you inspiration for why you’re doing what you are.
