Find Your Motivation Away from Cliches

motivational-cliches-classWhen you’re down and stressed from life and school do you find comfort in motivational posters? Do you “keep calm and carry on,” or are you “hanging in there?” There is no shame in taking comfort in a trending motivational quote, but I find that if it doesn’t speak to you personally it’s like a leaf in the wind. In my experience the best motivation comes from experience and close friends. If you haven’t already found what works for you try some of my ideas below.

Before plastering massively shared motivational quotes all over your school work space consider a few other options first.

  1. Print out happy or humorous images of you and your family.
  2. Create your own motivational meme.
  3. Copy glowing discussion board comments and blow them up on paper.
  4. Collect one or two titles from your best papers and turn them into background stickers on your computer. They may motivate you for further assignments, or remind you of all the hard work you put into previously written work.
  5. Record your own sayings or mannerisms. Everyone has an interesting story, capture yours in a quote.

To contradict myself, it is alright to stick to your favorite motivational sayings. To some they’re like comfort food. They make you feel warm and full. Just try to avoid being a cliche by following everything the crowd is saying. After all, you’re already unique for being an online student.
