Before Making the Final Decision: Interview the School

It doesn’t matter if the school you’re interested in attending is a brick and mortar or completely online – you must do your due diligence before making the decision to enroll. CampusDirect helps us to remember just exactly what we should be concerned with before committing to an online degree program. Below are four must-ask questions they insist should be on your list:

  1. Is this institution accredited? The accreditation status of an online college is an essential piece of information for students. Make sure that the school you’re interested in is not only accredited, but accredited by a legitimate and recognized agency.
  2. Is financial aid available for online students? Normally, all students enrolled in an institution of higher learning are eligible for some sort of financial aid. However, it doesn’t hurt to have your school confirm that it is eligible to help students pay for college.
  3. Are the course schedules flexible enough to fit my schedule? If you’re working full-time and spending most of your other waking hours taking care of a family, it can be challenging to fit classes into your schedule. Check to see that your online courses are offered at various times and dates. One of the advantages of distance learning is the freedom online students have to gain an education without completely disrupting their lives by quitting a job or moving to a location near campus.
  4. Can I choose what pace to work at? Unlike the traditional classroom experience, distance learning students have the choice to work at their own pace, forgoing due dates and scheduled class meetings. However, online students can also choose to participate in a more structured program if deadlines and interaction with the instructor and peers are important to them. Make sure your online college offers you the option that suits you the best based on your study habits, schedule, and lifestyle.

If the answers you get are satisfactory, then you are one step closer to finding the right online college for you.
