Everybody’s doing it. What you may not have thought of is how it can benefit you as a student.
I’m not telling you to blog about the latest celeb gossip, the newest fashion trends, or what you had for breakfast; so hear me out.
You’re an online student. This usually means you’re fairly familiar with the online space, you’re already doing quite a bit of writing, and ultimately, you’re interested in your future and in the degree program you’ve chosen.
You’ve already won half the battle.
Why not blog as a means to share your ideas, encourage discussion and maybe even debate with your peers, and even to organize your thoughts for your next paper?
5 Easy Steps to Get Started:
- Pick a topic: What are you studying? What interests you most? What would you like to learn more about?
- Pick a host: WordPress, Tumblr, Blogger — all free, all easy to use.
- Name your blog: Make sure it’s short and sweet, easy to remember, and relevant!
- Start writing: There’s no harm in your first few posts being streams of consciousness – just write about whatever comes to mind, inspires you, etc. Just be sure to keep it relevant!
- Share it! Share the link with friends, classmates, professors!
While blogging may be a great outlet and a great forum for class-related discussion, do remember that anything and everything you post becomes public; so choose what to write about cautiously!
