Finding What You Need Inside the Classroom

Here are some helpful tips from an admissions representative at American Public University about navigating around the classroom to get your footing.

As a student at an online university, it can be easy to start to feel isolated. It takes more effort to feel engaged in the college culture. This is especially apparent when you need help with something in your classes, need help completing an administrative task or if you are having trouble locating information.

At most online universities, you can find the information you need directly inside your online campus. Exploring your online campus should allow you to find most of the information you need without ever making a phone call or sending an email.

At American Public University System, we are aware that students’ schedules can vary quite a lot and we try to make as much information as possible available to the student online, allowing them to “self-serve,” and putting them in charge of their learning experience while still providing support, when needed.

Typically, when you login to an online campus, you will first see a chart of important upcoming dates and deadlines. These are posted so you will have a quick and easy reference for information about when registration closes, when tuition payments are due, and when the course drop deadline is for each month.

Many online campuses offer features that also allow you to handle other matters – confirm your course registrations, determine if your tuition payment was received, and view the course materials needed for each class, for example.

However, if you cannot locate the information you need inside your campus, most online universities will assign representatives to assist you. When you enroll in an online university, you should make it a point to find the contact information for these representatives, so if you are having trouble, you can contact them immediately for assistance without needing to call general numbers and sitting in a queue.

We encourage students to spend a little time exploring their online campus. Don’t be afraid to click on a menu or open a link! You are always welcome to contact us, but you may be surprised to know how much information you can glean for yourself.
