7 Web “Accessories” for the Online Student

With all the distracting apps, games, social sharing sites, and chat features, it’s amazing that online learners get their work done! If your favorites bar looks like a word scramble then it’s time to clean house, and restock with links to new web tools to help with your studies.

Not sure where to start? I’ve included a great list of resources below to get you going.

  1. Paper.liFind out what’s going on in your industry by turning Tweets, Facebook status updates, Google+ stories, and other web content into your own personal online newspaper.
  2. WallwisherDo you have something to share? Announce it! Build your own announcement wall, share it with your friends, brainstorm, plan events, make lists, and learn something!
  3. Screencast-O-Matic – Record a demo for class, or make your own how-to video using this great web tool.
  4. Storybird – Get wordy and creative with this art-inspired website. It turns art into a story. A great detour to take when you have writer’s block for class.
  5. OneNote – Combine all your ideas and notes into one area with those cloud-based note collector.
  6. Mahara – Don’t wait until you’ve graduated to create a portfolio of your work. This portfolio software is a great way to share your achievements, and network.
  7. TED – Get inspired. Before you hit your class overload threshold try watching a few of these inspirational videos by experts in science, technology, and trailblazers in the world today.
