The value of the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) accreditation can be seen in the quality of the curriculum and the faculty who serve in the programs. ACBSP is a specialized accrediting organization that reviews the quality and integrity of business degree programs.
It’s important that prospective business students consider business accreditation like ACBSP when researching schools. Accreditation ensures that faculty members have qualifying terminal degrees and have been reviewed for their professional contributions such as presentations, publications, and community service. ACBSP accreditation also creates opportunities for schools and students to align with business honor societies like Delta Mu Delta, which can be noted in resumes and used when pursuing scholarships.
Why would a student pursue an ACBSP accredited school?
“First, I did the ‘traditional’ route of going on campus for my undergraduate degree and first graduate degree, and found having to juggle work and school schedules to be difficult. I chose AMU for my MBA for a couple of reasons. I was looking for an ACBSP accredited university that was not only known for academic quality, but one that was online so I could fit classes into my hectic work-life schedule,” said Jason Beaumier, MBA Finance student at American Military University (AMU).
“The MBA is part of a long-term plan to move into a management/executive position within my current organization. There’s a reputation associated with accreditation that gives people the confidence that an MBA program is meeting rigorous standards.”
What are the ACBSP accreditation standards?
There are six standards that are carefully examined in the ACBSP accreditation process:
- Strategic Planning
- Student, Stakeholder, and Market Focus
- Measurement, Analysis, and Knowledge Management (how do we use our data). Learning Outcome Assessments is a critical aspect of this standard.
- Faculty and Staff Focus, and Standard
- Process Management
While many universities offer business programs, not every university is ACBSP accredited. Therefore, be sure to research every school’s accreditation to ensure that you’re being offered a quality education from an institution that is meeting high academic standards. This will give you the confidence in knowing that what you’re learning is academically rigorous and relevant to the business industry.
