Keep Your Online Classroom Discussion Comments Brief and to the Point

Would you take the floor for more than 5-10 minutes during an in-classroom discussion? OK. Some of you would. But, for the majority of us, hearing someone go on and on with their opinion on a given topic is not their idea of effective learning. The same goes for online classroom discussions. Don’t write a paper in an individual posting. Huge postings can stop a discussion dead in its tracks. Other students may be intimidated by them or may not have the time to read them, and hence your ideas are never heard. Some instructors will give a recommended size for postings, or grade you down for long postings.
