“Like” Your Career Field on Facebook

The Facebook news stream is a great summary of your favorite brands, and favorite friends on a daily basis. Now you have the ability to subscribe to certain people, public profiles, as well as business pages. They’ve essentially created an RSS feed that will keep you current up to the second on what’s happening in your social media world. As a student, this is a good place to get a lot of your industry information.

You can do a search on Facebook for keywords or companies that relate to your degree program. Then “like” the more relevant pages and subscribe to the industry influencers. This will help you stay on top of the latest news in that sector, and keep you apprised of who the key figures are.

Not sure where to start? Ask your instructors what publications they read, and where they go for news. Most companies have a presence on Facebook by now, find the companies your instructors suggested and subscribe to them. You can impress your professor in your next discussion post by reporting on breaking material from their source. Just remember to engage with these pages and influencers as often as you can, don’t be just a casual observer.
