4 Things to Consider Before you Discard that Schoolbook

With an average of 41 courses in an undergraduate program, it is easy to several leftover books stacked up from your classes. Many folks who earned their degrees prior to the Internet kept most of their books to form what would become their personal libraries. Today, with easy access to online encyclopedias and similar tools, many books can seem unnecessary.

However, before you discard any of your books, consider the following:

1. Will you use the book in any of your other courses? Some courses use the same books, but different chapters. In other instances, a book such as Warfare in the Classical World may be useful in your Ancient Military History, Ancient Greece, and Ancient Rome courses.

2. Will you use the book ever again? While the book may not appear immediately useful for other courses, consider that there may be the chance you could use it later in life. This simply could be to help build your library or it could provide you with an immediate window of what you used to learn about a particular topic.

3. Can you resell the book? Some history books may be worth upwards of 100 bucks. Check for online booksellers or Amazon to see how much money you can recoup from your original purchase.

4. Can any of your fellow classmates use the book? A quick way to earn goodwill is to help a fellow student by giving away a textbook. That student will likely think of you when they are in the same situation.
