Do Not Take Your Quiz at the Last Minute

avoid-late-assignmentsOn Monday, you looked at the list of work you have to finish for your history course. The list was typical–one 300-word message board post, four 150-word responses to your fellow students, three chapters to read, and one midterm to take.

After reading the syllabus, you know that the midterm will be essay-based and you will have three hours to complete it once you start it.

As such, you plan to finish the reading and complete all the message board stuff first. You figure that by completing it all in advance, you will be that much more prepared for the midterm. However, there are some delays. You do not finish everything until Sunday evening and you start the quiz at 7:00 PM that night.

As you finish the first essay question, you click submit to see the next one. Your browser hangs for a minute and then gives you a 404 error. You try not to panic. As you click back, your browser asks if you want to resubmit your last command. You click “yes,” only to realize that there is nothing wrong with the site.

Your Internet is down!

I have heard multiple horror stories of how students waited to take a quiz the evening of the last day and something like this went wrong. While it is not necessarily the end of the world, most teachers are not on call Sunday nights to help you with these sorts of issues. Worse, some teachers do not accept any excuses in this arena.

You should never wait until the last minute to take your quiz. Instead, consider taking it Thursday or even Friday. If the worst happens possible scenario happens, your lose your work, then should make sure to get in touch with your teacher for help. By Sunday evening, some instructors may lose all their compassion for the student who waited until the last minute.

Take your quizzes and tests early. Avoid the last minute panic.
