Saving Money During the Summer

Summer is here. If you are like me, you are enjoying the long days, warm weather and the prospect of a relaxing vacation. Summer is a time of sun, swimming…and potentially spending a lot of money.

We all want to take some time off from work or school this summer, so how can we take a break without breaking the bank? The best way to cut down on summer spending is to take a “staycation” instead of a vacation. A staycation is when you take some time off and have some relaxing events around your house. Here’s some tips about how to have a fun and affordable staycation:

  • Do an Internet search for free places to visit around your home. You can find state or national parks, museums or monuments to visit. The visits may enhance what you’re studying in class! There is a good chance your admission will be free and you can also learn some cultural and historical facts.
  • Have some fun at home. If you are a camper, set up a tent in the backyard. Have a board game night, host a pool party or treat yourself to a movie marathon.
  • If you do have room in your budget to spend some money, take advantage of some days off. Practice your golf game, go to an amusement park or water park, or spend a day in the closest city to you.
  • If you visit a city and want to stay just one night, take a look at websites like Airbnb.com instead of looking at hotels. This is a great website that offers rentable houses, lodges or apartments at affordable rates.
  • Make your own fun! This may be easier said than done, but you are in control of your happiness. You do not need an entire week at the beach to enjoy some time off. If you can find joy hiking in a nearby park, visiting some tourist sites in a city close to your home or camping out in your own backyard, you will enjoy your time off while saving some money.

I know summer vacation is something that everyone looks forward to, but you do not need to open up the wallet to have fun this summer. Your best resource is the Internet.

There are so many fun ideas out there that will cost you little to no money! Take advantage of these ideas, so you can enjoy your summer break without spending a lot of money.
